Jehovah Jireh means “The God who provides.” In 2019, I endured a long and painful season of unemployment. My husband was in school full time for his second degree and couldn’t work, and I couldn’t even get an interview. After sharing my discouragement and fear with my small group, they took up a collection for us and slipped two maxed-out grocery gift cards under our door the very next day. In God’s miraculous specificity, those gift cards fed us exactly until my next paycheck two months later.
God provides, and he often does so through the ordinary miracle of the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit binds us together and lifts us up through the physical support of other believers. The way our small group provided for us was miraculous; not only because it enabled us to walk through a dark valley, but also because it has continued to buoy my faith and my confidence in God’s ability to provide over the last seven years. Do they know they’re still lifting my arms in praise, all these years later?
